Factors influencing the injury severity of single-bicycle crashes

The majority of research on bicyclist injury severity relates to bicycle-motor vehicle crashes, even though single-bicycle crashes make up more than half bicycle crashes. This study explores the factors related outcome We use crash data obtained from medical records collected in period 2010-2015 combined with road maintenance data. includes three categories: 'severe injury', 'slight 'no injury'. relation between surrounding and resulting is estimated using a latent class ordered probit model. model estimation identifies classes where likelihood cyclist membership depends bicyclist's age gender. Furthermore, several appear affect injuries These are geometry (i.e. if occurred lane or section), level, interaction level. findings suggest that sections result severe lanes. largest effect seen when occurs section poorly maintained being available. Crashes low volume roads few bicyclists also an increased probability as well occurring after dark.
